As a volunteer for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI), and a quilt contributor to the current traveling exhibit, I am always delighted when I learned that Alzheimer's Illustrated from Heartbreak to Hope has journeyed to a new destination. And more viewers will have the opportunity to see, and hopefully have their hearts touched, and minds opened by this amazing exhibit.
“Alzheimer’s Illustrated” Exhibit at AQS Show (Grand Rapids, MI)
Fifty-four small format art quilts (9″ x 12″) illustrate the disease from a variety of perspectives. These small quilts hang among 182 “Name Quilts,” each 6 inches wide and 7 feet tall, which carry the names of more than 10,000 individuals who have/had Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. The names of loved ones, written on fabric patches by family members and friends, honor the 5.4 million Americans in the United States struggling with Alzheimer’s disease.
We are asking everyone who attends the show in Grand Rapids to get stickered at the AAQI exhibit. Anyone in an AAQI apron should be able to get you a sticker. Please also leave a written comment about your feelings after viewing the exhibit.
