Quilts Always in Progress!

Oh, I've been SO busy!  With helping out family, doing my own quilting, and make a lot of really fun outside crafting, I've still managed to create my own small format art quilts for donation to the
 Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI)

I think I have 8 of these (shown above) now registered, but they've yet to get their official portrait scanning..but will very soon! There are SO many quilts AAQI Quilts for Sale and lots more on the Quilts Waiting for Assignment page.

Remember!!!!!

2013 is our last year of fundraising. On December 31, 2013 quilts on this page will be removed and will not be offered for sale. Read more here.

And check out all of my quilts here

 I've earned $3,052.25 for Alzheimer's research funding !!!

Since I've registered 8 additional quilts, I've created and donated 55 so far, but as you can see from the photo, more will be on their way..just subtract the 8 already made from this bunch and that leaves....hmmm...I made have even more in the works now that I think about it!!!

And two of my 2010 quilts are on the Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope  traveling exhibit and will be a available for bidding by the end of the year.

My 8 quilts from this group, shown in photo above, have not yet been scanned for a photo should be on the website within the upcoming month.  And then once, their number comes up, they are placed on the 'for sale' page.

(Thanks to Diane Petersmarck and Beth Hartford for all of their hard registration and web work for all of us who contribute to AAQI !  And of course, our wonderful, amazing leader, Ami Simms who works endlessly for all of us, wearing so many different hats and wrapped in so many different quilts all at once!!!)

Two More Quilts Sold!

13,398 - In The Flow

Michele Bilyeu
Salem, OR USA
Width: 8.25" Length: 11"

Materials/Techniques: Batiks and commercial cottons embellished with curved narrow-piecing and raw edge applique, metallic thread work and paint stick accents.

Artist Statement: Walking the path between caring for one's self and caring for others often creates the feeling of being overwhelmed, even submerged and walking under water. Sometimes flowing and sometimes turbulent, I seek to go 'into the flow' where I create bubbles of both time and space for myself and channel the energies into feeling the beauty of growth and deepening of my own inner strength, instead.

Dedication: For my mother, who now lives in a world of her own, and for my father who now does so as well. One lives here on earth, the other in the hereafter. Both are "In The Flow" in their own ways. May we all feel that sense of peace wherever we are.

This quilt earned $75.00 for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) where all profits go towards research funding for Alzheimer's Disease.

and....

Michele Bilyeu
Salem, OR USA
Width: 12" Length: 9"

Materials/Techniques: Linen, sailcloth, and polished cottons with raw edge applique and free motion design stitching.

Artist Statement: I love the amazing variety of styles and types of quilts that are available to all of us, today. I wanted to work with a high impact, modern quilting approach, but with one that also incorporated the graceful elements of artistic design, as well.

Dedication: For anyone who loves the both the beauty and grace of the traditional eastern influences, as well as the striking modernity of the western impact of artistic expression.

A fabulous reader, wrote me and said she bought this quilt. It has not yet been marked 'sold' on the AAQI site but if you try to buy it, it shows it is no longer available..meaning she did buy it!  Sometimes, the website is slow to react, just like all of us humans who are behind the keys!
This quilt earned $50 for Alzheimer's research funding!

Thats $75 for one and $50 for the other...$125 more that I have earned for research funding.

I AM THRILLED every single time AAQI sells one of my quilts and earns money to fight this hideous disease!

This quilt earned $75.00 for the AAQI
I'm sewing and quilting and donating Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI small format art quilts for this, our very last year of supporting and earning moneys towards Alzheimer's research funding.

Won't you please support this cause and help me, as well? I have these quilts now available by purchase ..click on green button and it will take you to the AAQI 'For Sale' web page created for each individual quilt.

I have designed and donated over 52 quilts in the years that I have been supporting this amazing cause. Many of my quilts were created while I was living with my parents in my childhood home on Douglas Island, near Juneau, Alaska. Caring for my mother, full time along with my father, and then later..caring for him, as well.

It has been a challenging and intense labor of love but it has meant the world to me and I will continue to create and donate, as much as I possibly can..until AAQI closes up shop for good by the end of this year.

None of my quilts will be available for purchase after this time. And there are only an actual half dozen months left.  I am so very close to having earned my $3,000 mile post for this group...the sale of these quilts would push me over that edge and not off the one that I am trying so very hard to earning funding to prevent...my own vicious DNA inheritance with a huge propensity towards Alzheimer's Disease or a related dementia.

Please help me, help us, help all who face the challenges of Alzheimer's Disease in their family by purchasing one ..or more..of my quilts.

Thank you so very, very much!

12,614 - Imperfectly Perfect in Every Way! still available!!!

$85.00

Michele Bilyeu
Salem, OR USA
Width: 8.5" Length: 11.5"

Designer: Original design Materials/Techniques: Free-form cutting, piecing, and hand quilting of Asian fabrics with perle cotton stitches and glass beads.

Artist Statement: Using my own form of liberated and free-form-improvisational piecing and quilting, I wanted to capture, as well as contrast, the perfection of the form and design of the Geisha with the random and free-wheeling imperfection of free form flying geese with the large bauble effect of glass beads.

Dedication: For my beloved mother who loved all things Asian, as she went from never feeling perfect in any way.... to being totally perfect in her very own special, and unique way. Advanced Alzheimer's disease has stolen all that she was, and had...physically, intellectually, and emotionally. Nevertheless, her inner spirit is still apparent to those of us who know and love her.

This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.

9400 - A Dream Within A Dream...went on a road show but is now available for purchase!

$75.00

Michele Bilyeu
Salem, OR USA
Width: 8.75" Length: 11.5"
Designer: Original design
Materials/Techniques: Designer cottons and batiks with applique, ink jet printing, Shiva oil sticks, metallic threads in free motion quilting, and golden beads.

Artist Statement: Edgar Allen Poe once wrote, "All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream." I wanted to create a deep, but still magical little quilt that brought the viewer into that dream...but allowed them to still see the golden nuggets of hope within.

Dedication: For my mother, who married my father 62 years ago, to share his life, his dreams, and his search for a golden future together. Alzheimer's might have changed those dreams, but it didn't completely destroy them. She dreams of him, and loves him, still.

This quilt has Fast Finish Triangles.
